Do I need this recommended service?

I have a 23 year old Goodman 2.5 ton system in my condo and I had a tech come out to do a tuneup. He claimed I need this service that costs $1100 but recommended I replace the whole system at a cost of $8500. According to him the system is old and is on the last breath. It is hard to trust anyone nowadays. Should I just ride it out with the system till it does in a few years or do the repairs he "recommended"?
