Will humans become obsolete?

My father in law is convinced that in the next 20 years there’ll be no need for people. Job market is more competitive. People have no drive to get anything done. Why have a person when you can have a robot do it. When a door closes. A Window opens. He claims I’m an optimist and not a realist, I’d say I’m both. What are y’all’s take. I work in the trades so I feel I have job security for the rest of my life. He’s claims the opposite. I said to him why would I bring kids in the world if it’s just doom and gloom. He replies that it’s not his problem. What does a guy do?
