Falling on outstretched hands, How to proceed?
Looking for how to proceed in seeking medical assistance. About 3 years ago, I repeatedly fell with my hands outstretched onto my palms while trying to teach myself how to roller skate (FOOSH). After about 2 days, I took a day off roller skating practice to focus on building body strength, including sets of pushups. The next morning, I woke up to what I can now identify as a winged scapula, although I had no idea what was going on at the time.
I saw an orthopedic doctor twice, got x-rays and mri scans, he said nothing was wrong and I should see a physical therapist for the pain. I went to another orthopedic doctor who did not seem phased by the asymmetry in my back, clicking/popping, or my reports of pain as he too gave me another reference to a physical therapist.
My question is why didn’t they just tell me I had a winged scapula 😭 My muscles have been compensating for over two years now, I developed chronic muscle tightness, tenderness and fatigue in my pecs, upper back, biceps, glutes, and thumb/pointer finger tendons on BOTH sides even though it started with just one. I’m also dealing from crazy thumb tendonitis after what should be normal activity, which I’m sure is exasperated by the entire muscle compensation thing going on. I’m planning on seeing a muscle doctor to finally get things healing as I’m young and do not want to be bed ridden any longer. I don’t like crocheting anymore, and haven’t roller skated since the scapula started protruding, would love to start again! Has anyone else dealt with something similar? Is there chance of recovery?
