cursed objects not responding to voice (PC)

me and my friend both have this issue where cursed objects like the ouija board or monkeys paw won't work for us. but our friend on console can use them just fine. we have absolutely no idea why and I can't find anyone else having this issue? I've seen people say turn on the text one instead of voice but I'd much rather actually talk. can anyone help?
