Better way than 70 to Moab?

Heyo! We're crossing the country, and stopping in Denver tonight. Figure Moab is a good stop tomorrow, and want to see some of the Rockies that aren't just the 70. 285 South looks fun, then 24 back up to the 70? Seems kind of lame, vs going all the way down to 4 corners, but that'd be a heckuva day to get back up. Our final destination is Phoenix, so a bit counter intuitive.
