What is there more than praying and reading?

My question is, what do we need to do to be a real christian, and to have real faith in God, to be truly holy, to be one with God and saved.

Well, we need to pray, fast and read the bible.

But that's not all of it is it?

The rich man who talked to Jesus followed every comandments, still Jesus told him to sell all his things.

When i do these things i feel like its all pointless and there is no hope, my love for God isnt real, my faith for God isnt real.

But how can i make it real?

How can i be holy, how can i be one with god?

Is it simply just read and pray, and i simply have to keep doing these and be more patient, or there is something more to it?

Something i need to know, or to do, maybe a prayer, or something, but i am sure there's more to it than just read and pray.

I find it hard to know what it is, and it feels like being one with God, and being holy is impossible
