Help, I don’t know if I’m overreacting or if my friendship has become exhausting

Hey, I genuinely need a reality check because I came back from this trip feeling more emotionally exhausted than relaxed 😭

I went on vacation with my boyfriend and another couple, and by the end of it I felt completely drained. There weren’t huge fights or dramatic scenes, but the vibe between them was constantly tense. Passive-aggressive comments, awkward silence, weird energy… basically the kind of atmosphere where you can never fully relax even during normal stuff like dinner or walking around.

One night we went clubbing while they were already clearly upset with each other. My boyfriend stayed with her boyfriend, and I sat with her on a couch. She barely talked, didn’t dance, just stared into space the whole time. I kept trying to include her and talk to her, but she only said she was tired and bored.

There were also a lot of small things that started adding up. They’d walk ahead without waiting for us, then get annoyed if we took “too long.” If we wanted to visit something, they’d stay outside because they didn’t want to buy tickets, but then they’d text us stuff like “how much longer?” or “we’re wasting time.” The whole trip started feeling rushed and uncomfortable.

One moment that really got to me happened during a boat trip. She’s not very confident in the water, and I think she expected her boyfriend to help her get in because he knew she was scared. Instead, he jumped straight in and swam far away. She got really hurt and started crying, and I stayed with her because I felt awful leaving her alone while she was upset.

By the last day, we went to this beautiful restaurant with an amazing view, and they were both sitting there barely speaking to each other or to us. The tension was SO heavy that I finally admitted it was affecting me and making it hard to enjoy the trip.

Their response was basically “couples get moody sometimes” and that I shouldn’t let their emotions affect me so much. My boyfriend also thought I shouldn’t have said anything because it could “ruin the vibe.”

What confuses me even more is that my friend still sends me vacation ideas and places we should go together like this whole trip was completely normal. But when I calmly explained that the constant tension stressed me out, she said she doesn’t really think they did anything wrong and that I’m probably just too sensitive.

Since then I’ve honestly distanced myself a lot from her, and now I genuinely don’t know if this friendship is even worth saving anymore.
