Tappei, I’m going to hold your hand while I say this
As an author, you need to kill your darlings, it doesn’t matter how much you love Emilia and hate doing it; that’s the point. It’s the job of an author to give stakes to the story. Deliberate favoritism to characters in your own story to this degree takes away from her and makes her a worse character for it.
If your heroine doesn’t face any real struggles and you treat her like a precious smol bean the whole time, her success doesn’t feel earned and she falls flat in the story; that not fair to Emilia.
I’m still behind on the new season so if she’s going through some real conflict in the coming seasons I’m so ready for Emilia to show us what she’s really made of and to stop being the center of Tappei and Subaru’s infatuation.
I’m mainly referring to the trials as a point here, she was struggling horribly to the point even thinking about it sent her into a panic attack, Puck leaves, and then she breezes through every single one in a day.
She’s died very tame deaths on screen like what? twice compared to the mangled corpses others end up as.
Her plot armor is so thick that I have no emotional investment when she’s in peril because I know Tappei doesn’t have the balls to actually put her in real danger or give her moments where she needed to make significant changes to her character while others have, multiple times over.
Obviously not trying to start a waifu war, these are opinions I have for Emilia as a woman character written by a man.
