Hi everyone! I just set up my tank yesterday and started cycling it today. (which explains the dead shrimp in there) I’ve been doing a ton of research, and I plan on making a little ecosystem with a betta, some snails and some corys. To cycle, I added my water conditioner, some seachem’s stability for bacteria, and the dead shrimp to get the ammonia kickstarted.

For plants and decor, I went to my local exotic pet store and picked up some mopani driftwood, a few anubias, and a java fern as I have heard they are very easy for beginners and can grow on rocks/driftwood. I also got a silk plant to start, but i plan on removing it after i get more plants. I have also added aquarium soil in the bottom and plan on adding some plants that can root. I also bought root tabs just in case. I would love to add rocks, I have a large flat one, but it doesn‘t look like any plants could be attached onto it. Where would be a good place to get aquarium safe rocks for not like crazy expensive prices? Also with the driftwood, I soaked it in water for a couple of days and changed the water. By the third water change, no more tannins were in the water! I’m surprised because I was expecting my tank to be brown during cycling and even after. I also buried it in the substrate a little bit, I hope that’s okay.

I want my tank to look fuller and more homey for my fish. What would you guys recommend adding? And also just wondering if my tank looks good for just starting out! I have seen some pretty awful looking fish tanks on here so I am trying to do better for my fish. Thank you all for your help!!
