Advice for continuing competitive distance running in Houston after high school?

Hey everyone, I’m finishing up my senior year of high school and will be attending the University of Houston this fall as a regular student (not currently committed to run NCAA).

My current PRs are:

  • 1600m: 4:22
  • 3200m: 9:21
  • 5000m: 15:25

I still want to train and compete seriously in college and potentially try to improve enough to pursue a walk-on opportunity later on, if possible.

I was wondering:

  • What are the best competitive run clubs/training groups in Houston for someone focused on distance track/XC?
  • Are there groups that regularly train on the track and race college/open meets?
  • What’s the best way to approach running unattached while in college?
  • Any advice from people who continued competing seriously without initially being on an NCAA roster?

I’m especially interested in groups with younger competitive runners or post-collegiate athletes.

Thanks!
