Maelle gets a pass

Everyone and their mother knows that Verso is a complicated but flawed character that’s in a situation that sucks. He has made some choices that aren’t good. At all. My question is why does Maelle seem to get a pass when we get to Act 3, and see she’s gone backwards instead of forward? Not being mean about it, just curious.
