Character expo: I want to show off Cecelia Grey - ghost hunter.
A woman in spotless full hoop skirts with a large flamboyant hat, daintily lays waste to all around her with an oversized bastard sword. She is untouchable. Literally.
The build centers around ghost syrup. For 6000 we can purchase something that on a failed save makes us permanently incorporeal.
My DM let me take shaken as a plot point and sickened from booze to roll a Fort save of 0 vs DC 20.
Then I put on my amulet of grasping souls.
at this point martials have a really hard time with me. They need magic weapons, and even then without ghost touch they only do half damage.
I meanwhile can hit them with full damage, and disappear into walls, floors, etc.
Given that I'm most vulnerable to casters, I built everything else against them.
Cecelia is a surface infiltrator Drow with spell resistance 6+character level. Her mother was killed by dwarven mage hunters when she was a baby, and they adopted her and trained her in their arts. Giving her the traits
Adopted into spellcaster anathema for +1 when attacking spellcasters
auspicious tattoo gives +1 will save)
she also got the drawback Superstitious for guiding spirit to reroll once per day.
Cecelia is a Slayer - of the witch killer variety. This gives her a variety of tools to use against casters. Bonuses to will saves against spells, and most delightfully casters have to add my Slayer level to concentration checks.
Slayers get sneak attack, and studied target to add extra damage to a particular unfortunate - maybe a caster standing in a protected location behind a bunch of martials I can just walk through.
I can also smell magic.
Cecelia has moved on from her family business of mage slaying. She's found that most ghosts are reliant on their tricks and have nothing on a fully functioning slayer hitting them really hard. These days she travels looking for ghosts to send to rest - but she still has all her skills if casters become a problem.
I built Cecelia at 7th level. As she currently stands
Cha 17 +2 +1 (mod +5) Wis 14 (mod +2) Dex 16 +2 (mod +4) Con 8 -2 (mod -1) Str (6) ——- Int 9 (mod -1)
Will save 2+2+1+1+2 = 28 (+3 vs. spells and su) 1 reroll Reflex 5+2+1 = 8 Fortitude 5 -1 = 4
AC 10+ 4+5+1 =20
Average DPR: 60
Min: 53 (if all hit)
Max: 198
She carries a +3 keen large bastard sword 2d8 -2 to hit (cancelled by effortless lace) I ended up deciding not to make it ghost touch just in case someone stole it - although if someone takes out my amulet that leaves me naked and weaponless.
There is a feat Ghostslayer - that lets you use weapons without the amulet. I ended up deciding against it - but with greater restoration to get a Str score back she doesn't just become useless in antimagic. As she currently stands this is Cecelia's biggest weakness.
I also carry wands of true strike, shield and protection from evil as part of my anti-caster gear.
