Gf wants to break up after 5 years due to loss of attraction

5 days ago, my girlfriend (20) told me (M21) about a sudden feeling she’ve had for the last weeks to months.

When we were 15 years old, we quickly became very good friends. It felt as we had known each other for lifetimes. We had a great time together and spent all of our time together. Some months into our friendship, we both unexpectedly developed feelings for each other, and 6 months into it, we had our first kiss and were deeply in love. We were each other’s first love. We lived in a paradisiacal ”honeymoon phase” for over a year, and our love has only deepened since. We have travelled the world together, had many deep experiences, and just grown up and enjoyed life with each other. We could both not hope for any other. We of course have had rough periods too, but not any worse than what is expected in a relationship between human beings. We are as open as humans can be with each other and it genuinely feels as if we are one in two bodies. We feel deep love for each other til today. Our plans just a few weeks ago were to move out with each other in a month.

Now to the very unexpected last days. From nowhere for me, my girlfriend cried and told me that she does not feel attraction to me any longer. She loves me deeply and thinks I’m very beautiful, but she can’t handle that Im smaller than her. For the last months, she has felt a need for a man larger than herself. For context, Im normal sized and might be 2-3 cm shorter than her. I do know that before we were in a relationship, she wanted someone longer than herself, but this has not been much spoken of, since. Im just very confused. I don’t know how to handle this. From being convinced we were to spend eternity with each other, to this. I do trust her and believe that this is the truth, but it is very hard to swallow, that our relationship and our lives together is to end due to that.

We have together decided to spend a few last months together, as we both feel the need for a proper time together for the eternal goodbye. I’m not too sure why I’m writing this, but I don’t feel comfortable telling any friends about this, and would love to hear other’s thoughts and advices, and get it of my chest❤️

Edit:

How do I move on with an open heart? If it could happen with her, how could I close myself to the feeling that this could happen in the future with another one? Especially when our physical difference has existed for all of our time, but only became a problem after many years?

Also, she feels that the feeling could possibly be eradicated if I were to start to go to the gym and become larger, but I can’t see that as a longterm solution. I don’t have any passion for the gym and a different body. And what happens when I stop doing hitting the gym? That is inevitable.
