What career path should I explore if I enjoy functional design more than interior aesthetics?
First of all, I apologize if my English isn't perfect since it's not my first language, but I'd be happy to explain further if more details are needed.
Back in university, I majored in Interior Design. However, after graduating, I realized I was actually more interested in the technical and functional side of it, like how to make a space more practical and efficient for the people using it, rather than focusing mainly on aesthetics.
For example, I'm more interested in designing products that make everyday life easier for users, whether through multifunctional features or creating shapes/designs that feel more comfortable and efficient to use. Designing an entire house interior actually feels overwhelming to me. I've realized that I work much better when focusing on one smaller thing rather than handling a huge project as a whole.
I really enjoy the idea of creating things that can make people’s lives easier, especially in the home/living space area.
Since graduating, I've never actually worked in the interior design field because, long story short, I experienced burnout after studying interior design for 5 years. As a result, I've forgotten a lot of the software I used before, such as SketchUp, AutoCAD. However, if there are career paths that still require those programs, I wouldn't mind learning them again or even learning new software if needed.
Additionally, since my budget is limited, I'd really appreciate suggestions or fields that are possible to explore without needing an expensive degree or courses.
I'm also open to international career paths or remote opportunities, since I'd love to work in a field with broader growth opportunities.
I'd really appreciate any career suggestions or advice. Also, are there any communities, forums, or groups related to the careers you recommend? I think it would really help me to learn from people already working in those fields.
