5 months in the NICU for BPD and hitting a major plateau. Does it ever get better?
Hi everyone!!
My son has been in the NICU for 5 months now, and it feels like we have hit a total plateau. He’s currently around 2.7 kg and on low oxygen flow (0.5L) via nasal prongs. He is stable when sleeping, but his oxygen requirements just aren’t improving. Every time he wakes up or cries, his SpO2 drops into the 70s and 80s (with the nasal prongs) and we feel stuck at the same settings we’ve been on for a month. I’m looking for any personal experiences from parents whose babies had a long-term plateau with BPD.
- How long did it take for your little one to finally "turn the corner"?
- Did they eventually catch up cognitively and developmentally?
We are feeling pretty exhausted and just need to know there is light at the end of this tunnel. Thank you.
