Directive 8020 - Review

Genre: Sci-fi Survival Horror | Platform: PC/Console

Vibe: The Thing x Dead Space x Among Us but way darker

What It Gets Right ✅

The Premise Hits Hard

Directive 8020: “80% of crew must be terminated to preserve 20%” is brutal and immediately creates tension. It’s not just “find the alien.” The AI is forcing you to be the monster. That moral weight is the hook.

Paranoia As A Mechanic

The 20-minute vote cycles + sabotage-able bio-scanners mean you can’t trust tools or people. Every repair task doubles as a chance to frame someone or get jumped. True social-deduction horror.

The 20% Twist

Escaping doesn’t mean winning. Post-game “quarantine logs” revealing you carried the contamination home is chef’s kiss cosmic horror. It makes every win feel hollow and every replay feel personal.

Where It Could Improve ⚠️

Pacing Risk

Forcing a vote every 20 mins could feel gamey if matches run long. Fix: Tie votes to failed objectives instead of a hard timer. Makes it feel emergent.

New Player Friction

Social deduction + horror + task management is a lot. Fix: Add a “Crew Training” mode where the alien is NPC-only for first 2 games. Teaches mechanics without instant betrayal trauma.

Balance The Hunt

If the alien is too strong, crew just hide. Too weak, no fear. Fix: Give the alien a “biomass meter” — it gets stronger with each wrong ejection, weaker with each correct one.

Bottom Line:

Directive 8020 doesn’t reinvent survival horror — it weaponizes your friendships. If you like games that ruin trust but make legendary stories, this is an instant buy.

Just don’t play it with your mom right after you send her that sweet Short 😅
