i’m tired of rampant hypocrisy

people are so hypocritical and lost. for example, if you say (FOR EXAMPLE, i don’t actually believe this) that you do not support gay marriage, people will extrapolate and basically akin you to nazis, to people or groups or systems that believe that gay people should be harmed, should be removed from populations, should be stripped of basic human rights. that person, although intolerant of equal marriage, does not believe that gay people should be harmed in any way, or mistreated. yes, denying the right of marriage is wrong and a form of oppression but it’s not the same as being gassed, supporting conversion therapy, supporting violent dehumanzation and maltreatment. but essentially if someone says they don’t support gay marriage however they treat gay people with respect and are not hateful, people will blanket them and say that person is dangerous, a bad person, and that they support the extermination of gay people.

right now, islam has somehow become acceptable in oppressive circles, even though the religion is built upon hateful, harmful foundations including child marriage, female oppression, violent intolerance including homophobia, as well as the right to force people into the religion by the sword, and take women and girls as spoils of war, and the right to stone people for leaving islam or accepting someone besides allah as your god.

so basically one person can say “i don’t hate gay people or want them to be harmed but i don’t support gay marriage” and they will be accused of and believed to be a dangerous cruel person who wholeheartedly supports the abuse of gay people. beside them, someone can say “i’m muslim” but somehow they don’t need to jump through hoops to explain that they reject those pretty concerning yet rampant aspects of the faith, people will give them the benefit of the doubt. i’m not saying the muslim should be judged harshly, im saying it’s not a balanced way to judge people, but it’s the way things are these days.

is what im saying making sense? i don’t love people who don’t support equal marriage, but i also don’t think that they’re all automatically dangerous and want all gay people to be gassed. how come it’s become so common and accepted to assume the worst of people? is it because the loudest people are the most unhinged? is it because the people in power take these views to those dangerous extremes, and that anyone who “agrees” with one small aspect of an affiliated belief (even if they didn’t vote for the politician/party) is dangerous by association, even if they would never and have never hurt anyone? INCLUDING in how they voted? (ie. didn’t vote for trump despite wanting to limit illegal immigration for example).

i realize this went in a million directions but its because my brain kind of started whirring and all of this just spilled out the more i thought about this wider pattern. people are so hypocritical, and so smug and proud of it. tired of hearing things like “people like that want people like me to die“ and similar nonsense. most people don’t want others to be harmed even if they diverge in beliefs or values. like i can’t even talk about being excited to watch the new harry potter series because ive loved it since i was a child. it means that i want trans people to die, and suddenly im being judged by my friends and people i barely know? no, it doesn’t. how come when people listen to kodak black or chris brown or watch movies with sean penn or michael tyson i don’t automatically assume they support woman-battering and want all women to be abused??!?! make it make sense
