What to do in end July?

Hi! It'll be my first time to NZ in end July - early Aug and will be spending 2.5 weeks in Auckland and Christchurch. I know that it'll be winter during this period, wondering what would you recommend me for me to visit? We'll be driving around and we'll love to be checking out various wildlife parks!
