Preparing chest + scar for tattoo?
So I'm coming up on 6 months post op.
By all accounts, I've healed beautifully!
Had very little pain during the initial healing, the only difficulty I faced was a dissolvable stitch coming out early leaving me with a quarter sized hole in my chest for about a week, but even that disappeared into the scar very neatly very quickly.
The scar itself doesn't feel much of anything. my brain tells me it itches sometimes, but I can't feel it, so thats just my brain being a liar.
But anyways, my chest still gets sorta tender. Especially on my non dominant arm's side.
And I've known for a while now that I want to get a chest piece at a year post-op to celebrate it.
And I know tattooing the chest is generally more sensitive than anywhere else, and especially over scar tissue, and especially when the nerves are healing post surgery.
Obviously I'll make sure my surgeon gives me the goahead and I'll be making sure my tattoo artist has experience in working over scar tissue to give myself the best shot at a nice, well healed tattoo, but-
In the meantime.
What should I be doing to help prepare the skin for tattooing? I know I shouldn't even think about tattooing until the end of the first year- but what treatments should I do, what stretches should I do, what things can I do now to ensure that my skin is well healed, healthy, and ready for tattooing in about 7 months when that time comes?
I know a lot of us opt for tattoo coverups to hide the scar, or to accentuate it, so what did yall do to get the skin ready? How did your tattoo feel? What should I know?
