Actions before birdsong

So, you know how there are actions that happen "in the beginning of birdsong" and that they basically exist in their own timeslot separate from the rest of birdsong? How early into the "real" birdsong are you allowed to choose your actions?

I remember that in digital you used to be able to guess corvid plots before activating mobs (which is the first step of rats' birdsong), which is not the case anymore, nor can you activate crafted cards before razing either

To my knowledge, nothing should stop you from doing stuff before step one of birdsong. Is it just a quirk of digital or am I wrong?
