Do smaller crews actually benefit from “call before you dig” softwares or is a notebook good enough?

We’re a small 5-man crew doing mostly residential jobs and some light commercial work. We always call 811 before digging, but after that the organization side gets messy fast. Half the time I’m checking old emails trying to remember whether utilities responded yet or whether a ticket is about to expire. Other times I’ve just got notes written on whatever paper was in the truck that day. Someone recently mentioned call before you dig softwares that supposedly keeps all this organized, but I honestly can’t tell if those tools are made for companies our size or if they’re mainly for big contractors managing dozens of crews.
