Fabric drawing
For artists who are good at drawing fabric/clothes, do you just know where to put the folds eventually after a lot of practice, or do you base it your memories or references?
For example, do you, draw clothes just knowing where to put the folds because you really understand it without the need of a reference,
Or do you, its not exactly using a reference, but more like you have to search your brain for a memory of a reference, then you can draw the clothes?
Im having a hard time drawing fabric. I do the second one, i really dont understand where to put the folds or what kind of folds, etc. i just memorized so much poses, how the clothes hang off the bodies, what type of fabric is it (thin, thick), then draw it on what im currently drawing. I feel like it would be more convenient and less time consuming if i just understand automatically where to put the folds.
If your the type to just understand where to put the folds/wrinkles, how do you achive it? If i copy a lot of references, and just practice, will i eventually achive that?
