:BabySajaDemon: Opinion

Not going to lie, seeing non asian people cosplay as the Kpop Demon characters feels icky to me (I am EAsian). Now, before it sounds like I'm trying to gatekeep anything, I'm specifically talking about Kpop Demon Hunter birthday parties for children in which the Rumi character is being performed by a non Asian person. At cosplay/anime conventions, that's fine and fair game because it's about the community, people's favorite animes and shows, etc.

My issue is that after the movie became a worldwide success, of course, companies and individuals would be called to host 5-8 year-old parties as Rumi/Saja Boys. But in the same vein as theme parks and other party characters who wouldn't play a character and ethnicity they are not... why are you playing a person who is Asian when you yourself are not? Like, yes, they're children, and all they see is the costume, hair, and makeup, and maybe I'm thinking too hard about it, but I've been seeing more and more TikToks of non Asian people posting their videos at children's parties, and it just gives me a weird feeling.

It's just a small thing that's been bothering me, but no, I'm not going to stop anyone from continuing to be Rumi at a child's party for an hour and a half.
