NEED HELP !!! Having Problems with my apartment lease with Ex. Husband

For the context, divorced 3 months ago. We had signed a year apartment lease. He no longer lives in the apartment of course, I am left to pay rent which is fine BUT ... coming to a year mark soon and I am moving out . He is still on the lease legally. The apartment management said to have him removed from the lease but in order to do this , he has to sign off of it. They release a form to him to sign and he is refusing. After the year mark, the lease auto renews so meaning we both are still responsible. I am not sure what to do next. I have been paying rent the past 8 months now while he is living with his family. It's basically my lease but he wont come off of it. The management told me they can removed him unless he agrees to it. It doesn't make sense because I am paying them rent. If I wont be in the state then how come I share that responsibility. Any advice will be appreciated.
