Box set from my childhood
I’m looking for a childhood box set I read as a kid that search engines can’t help me find. I read it in the late 1980s but the set could’ve been published way before that.
It is NOT Childcraft or the Early World of Learning (I’m too familiar with them).
Physical look:
- They’re tall, thin pocket paperbacks with crisp, matte-like paper
- They’re not the SRA pamphlet style books that are stapled together. They’re thin but still have spines and stand upright. There are no cards that come with them.
- They’re multicolored if you put them in their sleeve
They stand upright and vary by color based on the reading level.
- The set had around 8-12 books
Content:
- Each book is a collection of random stories, of different styles, with no recurring characters. Art styles also varied but were vivid rather than pastel or watercolor like.
- The stories aren’t too kiddy or fantasy like; they’re high interest stories written for younger reading levels
- IMPORTANT: One story in particular is about the New York City Blackout. Those entire few pages were on black paper with white font and cartoon drawings of buildings with no power
