I Must Obey the Inscrutable Exhortations of My Soul - Mother’s Day reflection

Mother’s Day was emotionally a little harder this year but I know it’s not gonna be the hardest one ever. My mom is dying of cancer and high chances this was the last Mother’s Day i get to spend with her. I’m listening to I Must Obey the Inscrutable Exhortations of My Soul and the ending is just really resonating.

“Ain’t it sad how it seems like everything is more beautiful when it gets to the ending? When it crashes together? Anything can happen to anyone.”

Im slowing down, I’m noticing how more how good things have been. It all does seem more beautiful as we near the end of my mom’s life. And I don’t need to have this “why me, why us” attitude because anything can happen to anyone.

But then the hopeful notes of the song too, the fact that life goes on and anything truly can happen to anyone, good or bad.

“To the best of the good times, lift them up sing together”

At least I can still celebrate my mom with my mom for a short while longer. I can make more good times and remember those that have past. Even if emotionally this is killing me and physically killing her.

Idk just some thoughts. This band has really been there for me through a lot.
