How do I know if it’s a habit wake or true hunger?
Baby is almost 5 months old and looking to start sleep training (Ferber) next week.
Prior to the last week, she slept 12 hours a night. I’m assuming the sleep regression has hit and she’s now waking up at 1 am every morning.
She is bottle fed breastmilk throughout the day (and while in daycare) so we know she’s getting as much as she always does, is eating plenty and has appropriate weight gain.
With her waking up due to the regression, I then think she realizes she could be hungry. She does usually go back to sleep after eating.
My husband thinks we need to feed her at this time every night to get her to go back to sleep. My concern is I don’t want to start habit feeding her and further the loop of her waking up at 1 am every night.
What do I do here? If she truly is hungry, should I feed her every night? Or is it just her waking up and wanting to comfort feed to go back to sleep and we’re “feeding into it”? (No pun intended).
Thank you!
