Redundancy options
Interesting one that I am posting for a friend, as the have no interest in actually creating an account and it has some serious pro/cons depending on if you value continuous income or cold hard cash haha.
Their position is being made redundant just shy of 3 years tenure. They currently work as a Business Analyst and get $125Kish.
They have been offered redeloyment into another role or the option of a payout, and this is where it gets interesting.
If they redeploy, it would be into a role that pays $110k per year.
If they take they payout, they will get statutory mins (6 weeks, plus 2 weeks notice) BUT this person has been really bad at actually taking annual leave and has around 8 weeks leave. So their payout would stat min+accrued AL+final pay, which all in would account for $40k after tax give or take.
Normally I would say just take the cut, use some leave and start looking, but with such a relatively high payout on the table (almost 50% of annual salary post tax), plus this person being pretty employable (great work experience with some flagship companies), I am actually thinking they would be better off taking the money to get their leave paid at their current rate, and rolling the dice as far as jobs. Worst case scenario that money is the equiv of 5 and bit months salary, best case, they get a job quick and have a nice little lump sum.
Curious to see what the consensus is?
