Wide, specialized planets, and trade

I just got back into stellaris after many years

I dont recall transferring resources from my specialized planets to consumption planet costing the resource of trade

Is that just the cost of doing business and the specialization bonus makes up for the cost. And you also specialize generating a trade/commerce planet?

Or do you keep some basic needs on each planet. Like good generation and some electricity
