Gold doesn’t seem to be trading like a “normal” safe haven anymore
What’s interesting lately is that Gold has been rallying even while rate expectations stay relatively elevated.
Normally:
- higher yields = pressure on Gold
But now geopolitics and volatility seem to matter more than the traditional macro relationships.
Feels like traders are using Gold less as an inflation hedge and more as:
- a volatility hedge
- a geopolitical hedge
- a liquidity parking spot
At the same time, oil volatility is feeding into inflation concerns again, which is making the whole macro environment feel unstable.
A lot of shorter-term traders seem to be adapting by focusing more on volatility itself rather than long-term direction.
And honestly, this is where broker conditions become noticeable too. During these faster commodity moves, execution consistency matters way more than people realise. Been testing BCR recently and it’s handled these sessions surprisingly smoothly.
Anyone else think the Gold/oil relationship has started behaving differently this year?
