Trying to make a trivia app in a very crowded market
Trivia is a heavily crowded market, but there are not a lot of good apps in it. For someone who might have played quizup in its glory days can relate to it.
I have already made the trivia app. Currently it has some simple topics ( around 18 with 100-300 questions in each ).
What makes my app different:
- Strictly no bots, or if there will be bots it will be marked and probably something known like gemini, chatgpt etc.
- You can play solo or with 3 other players.
- Matchmaking work across multiple topics. You can try to find a match by selecting say all 18 topics right now. But a match can have maximum 5 to 6 questions from only 4 topics ( not all 18 )
- Not just mcq, there is a grid type question as well which is pretty unique in a multiplayer settting.
What is in scope for future:
- Have regional and country based topics/quizzes
- Weekly monthly contests
- play against known AI ( gemini, chatgpt )
- different question types ( say guess the song )
Concerns:
I believe international market is too crowded for this and difficult to gain visibility, I am thinking to focus just India for now. Basically add all topics related to India ( religion, politics geography etc )
Now, I am decent enough at engineering and can probably handle this at scale ( concurrent connections, question repetition, lag etc ), but I am struggling at marketing and somewhat at question procurement ( collaborating with someone on this )
Do you think something like this can succeed or people have too low attention span to play trivia these days.
PS: this post is entirely human writtten, the code is 70% human written.
