I might have splurged a little bit…

Back in January my Xbox series x was constantly overheating, and the more I played the worse it got, symptoms of dried out thermal paste, spent 4 hours carefully opening it up and repasting the apu, and after forgetting to plug in the main ribbon cable and having to open it back up to fix it again, the overheating issue was largely fixed, but it would only last an hour before it would overheat and crash again, and of course the more I continued to play the worse it got.

So in February, I was fed up, and suddenly realized I am a adult now and have a good amount of money saved up, and a dream of having a pc that I have had since I was a kid was now in reach, to have a pc that could actually play the games I wanted, and not a slideshow. (Only had crappy laptops.) and to also not be restricted by my console. (Mods and such)

And after about a week of life consuming research, I made the 1 1/2 hour drive across the city to Micro Center, to buy all of the parts for my build.

Pc Specs :
Am5 9700x
32 gb of cl36 ddr5 ram
Rx 9070 still asus tuf gpu
1 tb nvme (curse you ai tech idiots)

Arrived at about 7 pm, and finished building 5 hours later at midnight, tired and hungry, I didn’t even power on the pc and turned in for the night. To my surprise the next day, my pc booted right into the bios. I then proceeded to install Zorin os Lunix, steam then some games, amd started haveing a blast. I realized that the 9060 xt that I had initially bought didn’t have enough power for the 4k tv i was using at the time, so after a week I made the trip back to micro center to swap it out for the 9070 xt I now have.

On the second trip to micro center I unfortunately was unable to avoid some debris in the road due to traffic all around me, and ended up with a flat tire, that i had to change out with the spare, fortunately that was on some worn out tires that i was looking at replacing, and was only a 30 min delay.

Since then I have spent a good bit of money on expanding my game library on steam, being blown away by the compatibility layers that steam has developed for lunix players to be able to play windows games, so much so that I haven’t had a single issue on lunix, and I currently see no reason to install the microslop os on my pc, and get extorted to activate it. (100+$ really seemed like too much for windows). So windows hasn’t, and will likely never touch my machine.

After about a month I started looking at getting a desk to help finish my setup, and to play more comfortably than on a tiny tv diner table. After looking around for a while, i found a scratch and dent special at my local Home Depot for half off of what it would normally cost, and it was a finished countertop that was bigger and cheaper than the unfinished wood i have been looking at. This was literally perfect for what i had planed, because I wanted a large desktop with a monitor shelf, and this was big enough to do both, and it looks beautiful.

Once I found the top I wanted I bought it right then and this set everything else into motion, I started looking for brackets for the shelf i wanted to make, and found none, so i started ordering parts to just make them myself, and I ordered the standing desk frame i was looking at getting, just before I found the top.

To make the brackets for my shelf my welding instructor aloud me to use scraps to make the supports, but due to the fact that these scraps are from a welding school shop, there was a lot of grinding of excess weld to bring it down smooth (the picture is one of the worst that I fortunately didn’t need). I used 6 in. pipe, cut it up into 2 in strips length wise and welded then up into a rounded square tube, and then used some plate steel welded som nuts on them, then welded that to the ends of the tubes after they were cut to length. While all that was going on I was fixing up my desk top and shelf after cutting the countertop to size, and fixing it after school, every day for a week. The welding took an entire month after school, mostly because of all of the grinding that was needed to clean up the pipe, and all of the time it took to be precise with my fabrication so the shelf supports were straight, and not so crooked that they would damage my desk or be unusable.

Some time in the beginning of may I finished up all of my welding for this project, and started painting the metal pieces, last week on Monday i was finally able to get my dad to help me remove a piece if furniture from my room, so I could rearrange my room to create a spot for my desk. By Wednesday i had my desk in a usable state, and last Saturday I finally finished putting my desk together after letting the paint dry on my metal parts, and installing the led light strip on the bottom of the shelf.

Yesterday on Monday (typing this up, late tonight) my welding instructor was blown away by my desk, and I decided to share it with you guys. Been loving the new setup.

Also I forgot to mention that I invested in a good standing desk frame.

TL;DR: i bought and built a pc after my Xbox started to overheat and I wasn’t able too fix all the way in February, after about a month i started looking for a proper desk to game on, didn’t like the cheap crap online, and built what i wanted, how I wanted it to be after finding a scratch and dent special counter top, and after over a month i have a amazing gaming setup that I could only dream of as a kid.

Now I’m tired and going to bed after this post. I have a test tomorrow.

I got fed up with my console, and well……
