1st update: Bessie Smith (She was mentioned during Sabrina and Mercy’s conversation in the story)

American singer, one of the most famous and influential blues singers of the 1920s and 1930s. The first blues singer to gain international fame. The singer died in hospital after an accident in which she got into with her lover, who lost control of the car.

Bessie Smith was much more than just a blues singer. She was a worthy representative of the black population of America. She lived her life the way she wanted to: illegal substances, alcohol, fights and affairs with both men and women. Bessie Smith celebrated the life she lived.

2nd update: Loretta Young

American actress, winner of the Oscar for Best Actress.

Despite her deep religious beliefs, the actress had a very turbulent personal life. The most high-profile affair that had to be kept strictly secret was her relationship with William Clark Gable, who was called the "King of Hollywood." She gave birth to a daughter from him, whom she first gave to an orphanage, and after a while adopted.

An icon of style, femininity and beauty, she managed to conquer not only film sets, but also the hearts of hundreds of thousands of men. However, no one knew how many tears, pain, and despair she hid behind the floodlights and cameras.

3rd update: Anna Mae Wong

The first Chinese-born Hollywood film actress to achieve widespread fame.

The first attempts to get into the cinema were unsuccessful: the United States did not accept the "exotic" diva. Then she tried her luck in Europe, where she was noticed. The Europeans were able to appreciate not only her acting skills, but also her amazing sense of style. After a while, she returned to the United States as a self-confident woman, proud of her origins. Anna Mae Wong became a style icon, wore traditional Chinese clothes and was not afraid of discrimination.

The film actress has done a lot to bring two cultures closer together — Western and Chinese, without becoming "her own" for either of them. However, her personality destroyed all the patterns of that time.
