When to hand in the resignation letter?

I'm an intern at a startup and I'm the HR admin so they will rely on me to find a replacement as well. I have to stop because I'm starting uni soon. They expect a 3 month notice even though it wasn't mentioned on the offer letter, but I need to stop end of June. I'm only 18. What's the correct process please?
