Could a Watchmen trilogy work set in an alternate near-future?

Let’s say Robert Rodiguez co-directs a Watchmen trilogy with Dave Gibbons. Could it work if, like Moore wrote issue 1 in mid ‘85 taking place in late ‘85, it takes place in an alternate near-future where Bush was killed and Cheney has been president for decades, and now it’s late 2026? And, to be clear, the whole lore timeline is shifted up 41 years, making the Minutemen start up in the 80’s, and the military sees Manhattan utilized to end the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars to get their oil quicker, and in late ‘26, a comedian dies in New York. And also Veidt is Musk in persona and Thiel in practice (“Look out for the Antichrist” / “Look out for WW3”) but if they could throw hands, and his failed assassination sees his ear wounded like Trump’s. Also Ukraine-Russia still happens, but Cheney is a D1 Russia hater and threatens to nuke them on social media, Putin’s crew tweeting likewise. The Comedians death by falling would read like Russian assassinations, inviting a Cambridge Analytica / Russiagate / Mark Zuckerberg reading onto his killer, and although Mew Veidt isn’t aligned with them, it invites the audience to wonder if Veidt is worse than a states-to-be-nuclear-happy Putin. In rhis universe, Veidt invented a Facebook equivalent while in Harvard, and The Social Network is about him (remember, his identity is canonically public, this movie would sell, and be as made-up as the real movie so Veidt couldn’t win a lawsuit). The Comedian’s riot-fighting methods remain depressingly unchanged, and thinking about it logically, Iraq and Afghanistan probably become proxies, not full-on states, cuz that’s mean they could vote and power-hungry war-wanting money-mad oil-loving Dr-Manhattan-using (see? A FICTIONAL portrayal) Cheney probably wouldn’t value their votes. And the attack on New York and not some other American city reads as especially calculated post-9/11. Just so that Russia and the USA bond over this, New Veidt would probably drop a second squid on Moscow so the USA doesn’t blame and nuke Russia. And he’d have to do it way way sooner so Nite Owl II doesn’t see Moscow exterminated on TikTok on his way to Veidt’s place, probably replacing the “35 minutes” with “35 seconds” so that Nite Owl II and Rorschach really could’ve had no idea before New Veidt started talking. Rorschach’s backstory, personality, and ideology are depressingly grounded in that they remain entirely unchanged from the comic.
