My parents pretending nothing happened?

NSFWTrigger Warning: CSA (Child Sexual Abuse)

Backstory: when I was 15 I was groomed and “in a relationship” with a 33 year old man for 4 years. I met him in a park. My parents were going through a divorce and my home life was an unstable place. He saw I was vulnerable and I was an easy target. My parents did very little to support or protect me from this, and mostly just blamed me for the whole thing stating I was a wild problem child and wouldn’t have accepted their help regardless (whatever helps you sleep at night). I was even stopped by police while with him one time and they called my mom and my mom talked them down and they left us alone. At the time, the legal age of consent in Canada was 14, it changed to 16 when I turned 16. My abuser knew this and abused a string of 14 year old teenagers in his thirties because he used this law to his advantage.

Anyways without having to explain, I’m sure it’s not surprising that the whole Epstein and Diddy thing is pretty triggering for me to hear about from well meaning people just talking about cultural events. But what triggers me the most is people talking about how those girls deserved protection and support. I was gaslit the entire time I was abused that it was my fault by everyone in my life. My family, my high school, everyone. I wasn’t never protected. I have tried hard not to internalize beliefs that some girls are “worthy” of protection and care and I simply was not.

Anyways. Today I asked my mom about her trip to Memphis and Nashville and she randomly mentioned how she learned how Elvis Presley dated 14 year old girls when he was a lot older and how that disgusted her, she mentioned a story about how Elvis Presley called the parents of one of girls asking them permission for her to move into his house and how their answer was “absolutely not”. My ignorant mom did not see how this situation was close to home at all for us. I had to say wow yeah when I was 15 MY parents allowed this, reminding her. She still didn’t really see. She refuses to see.

My dad also casually mentions Epstein news to me as if it’s not close to home, and even asked me if I’ve seen the movie “American Beauty” because he rented it from the library and wanted to know if I thought it was any good.

I am feeling so triggered, so unseen. I really need support please 😔
