Premolar extractions + LJS, anyone else?
For context, I’ve had a plate, twin blocks and braces from 7 years old until I was 15. 8 years later, now 23, I saw a new ortho as the wire behind my teeth snapped from what this orthodontist called a “recession”. My lower jaw is undeveloped and consequently I have an overjet, TMJ and overbite malocclusion. My teeth are very flared outwards. I’ve been to the physio and they ruled out that this these issues were the cause of my TMJ pain. I’ve had enough of all these issues and I’m hoping jaw surgery and orthodontic intervention will help.
A few weeks ago I had 4 premolars extracted and today braces put on to “decompensate” my bite (or whatever the term is). My surgeon - who is highly regarded - said that hopefully I will only need to have my lower jaw advanced, but this may change to DJS depending on how my bite and facial structure presents with the braces in a year’s time. I think there’s a possibility I may look recessed in my upper jaw if it doesn’t also move. I trust this surgeon though, dentists have referred to him as a “wizard”.
I’m just wondering if anyone else has had premolar extractions AND LJS/ double jaw surgery and how you found it? I can’t find much on both procedures being used together or any photos.
I think if I just had premolar extractions/ braces I would look quite recessed and have issues with breathing, so I feel optimistic that there’s surgery.
Also I would attach images of my face but reddit is a scary place and I’ve got a low self esteem 🕺
