BMO Teller overtime not paid (Canadian, BC)

Labor Law (Unions)

Location: Canada, B.C.

My friend recently got a grade 2 customer rep position in BMO (in lower mainland).

Her contract said “$21500 annh subject to taxes and withholding and laid in our normal payroll cycle”

She is expected to work “a minimum of 18.75 hours weekly”

Now, she started working and her supervisor moved her almost immediately to full time (8 hours - 30 min lunch), all normal. But then due to it being a busy, she never gets to leave on the clock, on average, she has to work 30-45 mins more after closing at 6.

Her manager told her she can’t report the extra hours as they are technically after bank’s business hours and thus can’t be compensated, but she is doing her job, talking to the last customer, logging in the final few services, doing some training, etc.

Am i crazy to think she should be paid for those time? She is in her company, working the job, just not receiving new customers. Her manager also said she must stay for this time.
