Will the stigma about age ever go away?
When I turned 25, I started to get called old. I knew I wasn't old, not even close. I didn't act or old think old or anything, but every time I told people my age online the response was usually along the lines of "Wow! You're an old man! Hey do your joints creak old man? LOL" even by friends younger than me.
I got called a boomer a lot.
It only got worse when I turned 30, which apparently the entire world has decided is the age when you can definitively no longer be called young in any capacity. You are now essentially a middle aged adult. The jokes about my age got even worse and more common and people asking if my knees creak, if I'm bald, how my hearing is, etc.
Again, still didn't feel old.
I'm 32 and I still don't feel old. I still feel like a young man. Yes, I have a few new health problems now, but I still don't feel old, and they aren't even tied to my age.
People still think I'm old. People still call me old.
I'm worried about when I turn 40. I know I still won't be old then, but 40 is officially "you are now an old person" age.
The problem is it's not just me. It's everyone that's 25+. I see YouTubers and streamers around these ages call themselves old all the time, because it's said to them so much. Their chats will be full of people all the time calling them old, decrepit, dusty, balding, etc, even if they look really young for their age.
I'll hear people like Pyrocynical be like "I'm pushing 30 I can't be saying stuff like that oh my god..."
I'll hear Jerma talk about how he's an old man now because he's 40 and he's gotta slow down in his old age.
Vinny will also talk about how he's old because he's also 40.
Anyone that gets close to 30 will start talking about how close they are to being old, and how they aren't looking forward to all the knee and back pain and all that.
It's kind of... insulting. To hear people under my age like once they turn 30 like me it's just over for them, their life will suck and they'll have to deal with a swarm of health issues and they'll need to slow down and start taking it easy because their bodies will start falling apart.
It's just not true. These people are not old. Jerma is not old. Vinny is not old. I'm not old either. It's ridiculous.
I know it's cliche to hate them but the younger generations are super annoying with this. You are older than them, so that means you're a boomer, an old man, balding and decrepit, and they're going to make fun of you, not thinking about how they'll be that age one day and then the next younger generation will be saying the same things to them.
And it's super fucking sad to see people 30+ see and hear these things said so much that they just believe it and think they're old men.
Will this shit ever go away? I'm so sick of it.
