What was it like to live in Nations under the Warsaw pact during the fall of the Soviet Union?

This could be during the years leading up to it (late 80s/90, 91) and the days and weeks leading up to and after the dissolvement in 91.

I've just been curious the experience of the other side of the curtain. We hear alot about its ramifications and fallout, but I am interested in what people living through it thought as it was happening and how it impacted them. Were people in eastern Europe in tune with what was happening in Moscow? Was there writing on the wall beforehand and people were expecting it, or was it more of a shock? What were the different experiences of the different nations with different styles of ties to the Soviets like Poland, Romania, Hungary, E Germany, and Czechoslovakia.
