I received financial aid and neither I nor the cashier's office know what's happening.

Finances/financial aid

The only financial aid I've gotten for the past two semesters is through Pell Grant and a state program. The only scholarships I've applied for are through my community college's foundation.

May 1st, I got an email saying "your funds have been released by your school" by the payment processor. I went to check my financial aid section on the student portal and...right there was $2k from some organization I've never heard of.

It's not listed in any of the contributing organizations to scholarships, nor is it behind endowments.

I called the cashier's office to ask because I was truly, truly confused, and the guy seemed just as confused as I was. A local government organization shares the same name, but it doesn't do $2k scholarships, just apprenticeships (despite apprenticeship being listed in that financial aid, and me not obtaining education in any field that has apprenticeships). He didn't have an answer, but he offered to transfer me to the organization, and after I said yes, the call didn't go through and I got disconnected.

I'm really wondering if I should leave it alone and appreciate the unexpected, random windfall, or if it was intended for another student and someone's going to come crawling looking for it.
