Tips to Balance College Life and CA Coaching Preparation

Managing college along with CA coaching is honestly one of the biggest challenges for commerce students. Between attendance, assignments, coaching classes, travel, tests, and self-study — it can feel overwhelming very quickly.

I’m currently trying to balance both, and after talking to seniors and observing what works, here are some practical tips that can actually help.

📚 1. Accept That Time Management Is the Real Exam

Most students think CA is only about intelligence, but balancing:

  • College
  • Coaching
  • Self-study
  • Personal life

is the real challenge.

You won’t always get “free time.” You have to create it intentionally.

⏰ 2. Follow a Fixed Daily Routine

A random schedule usually leads to burnout.

Try something like:

  • Morning → Revision / problem-solving
  • College hours → Focus only on college
  • Evening coaching → Active listening + notes
  • Night → Quick revision of what was taught

Even 3–4 productive hours daily can outperform 10 distracted hours.

Consistency matters more than extreme study sessions.

🎯 3. Prioritize ICAI Material Over Too Many Books

One major mistake students make is collecting:

  • Multiple modules
  • Extra reference books
  • Too many teachers’ notes

This creates confusion.

Focus mainly on:

  • ICAI Study Material
  • RTPs
  • MTPs
  • Coaching notes for revision

That is usually enough for Foundation preparation.

📝 4. Don’t Skip Mock Tests

Many students attend coaching regularly but avoid tests because they “don’t feel prepared.”

That’s a mistake.

Mock tests help with:

  • Time management
  • Presentation
  • Accuracy
  • Exam pressure handling

Even low scores initially are useful because they show your weak areas early.

📱 5. Reduce Social Media Distractions

This sounds basic, but it’s probably the biggest issue for students today.

Scrolling for “10 minutes” often becomes:

  • Reels
  • YouTube
  • Random videos
  • Gaming

and suddenly 2–3 hours disappear.

You don’t need to completely quit social media, but controlling screen time makes a massive difference.

🧠 6. Don’t Compare Your Journey With Others

Some students study:

  • 10 hours daily
  • Attend top coaching
  • Have no college pressure

Your situation may be completely different.

Focus on:

  • Your consistency
  • Your understanding
  • Your progress

not someone else’s timetable screenshots.

😴 7. Sleep Properly

A lot of students sacrifice sleep thinking it improves productivity.

In reality:

  • Poor sleep reduces memory
  • Increases stress
  • Lowers concentration

A fresh mind studies faster than an exhausted one.

📖 8. Use College Time Smartly

If your college schedule is relaxed:

  • Revise flashcards
  • Solve MCQs
  • Read Law provisions
  • Watch revision lectures

Small productive sessions throughout the day add up.

🤝 9. Stay Connected With Serious Students

Your environment matters a lot.

Studying with motivated students helps maintain discipline and accountability.

At the same time, avoid people who constantly:

  • Panic
  • Spread negativity
  • Compare marks
  • Demotivate others

⚠️ 10. Avoid Burnout

Not every day will be perfect.

Some days:

  • You’ll feel tired
  • You’ll miss targets
  • You’ll lose motivation

That’s normal.

The goal is not perfection — it’s consistency over months.

💡 Final Thoughts

Balancing college life and CA coaching is difficult, but definitely possible with:

  • Discipline
  • Smart planning
  • Regular revision
  • Patience

You don’t need to study all day every day.

You just need to stay consistent for a long period of time.

Would love to hear from seniors and current students:

  • How are you balancing college + CA prep?
  • Offline or online coaching?
  • Any productivity hacks that genuinely worked for you?
