Preparing for my Makera Z1 - Questions about what it can do, and software

Apparently my Makera Z1 will finally arrive some time in June. I have some questions and hope this sub can help me out.

By way of background, I come to this from 3D printing. I use a Bambulab X1, which means I am spared much of the technical detail. For the most part, I can get by with knowing how to replace some components, basic cleaning and maintenance, etc. Usually I just upload a STEP or STL file and it does the rest. I design 3D models using OnShape.

My immediate use case for the Z1 is to carve small relief sculptures in wood. The wood pieces are 20cm long x 2.5 cm x 2.5cm. I want to be able to carve sculptural designs into the front and two sides. The remaining side will remain flat. I have the designs already as STL files.

Is this something I can do with the Z1? Will it be straightforward? What are the choices for software for doing the equivalent of "slicing" the models and delivering gcode and relaying that to the Z1? Is there a good way to learn that software and make it as easy as using a slicer for 3D printing?

Will I ultimately be able to produce these items with the kind of simplicity I have with 3D printing?
