Has anyone experienced going back to work after the death of a loved one?

OUTPATIENT

Apologies if this is triggering for anyone, or not allowed. I recently lost my mom, very suddenly, and I was there by her side in the ICU for the month that she was ill. This all happened in a different state from where I live and work. I took FMLA to care for her initially but once she passed I switched my leave for my own purpose (PTSD, preexisting anxiety that is now through the roof). She passed 3 weeks ago, I’m going back to work this week.

I work in a busy outpatient setting- hospital based 1:1 at least. But it’s a stressful job mostly due to a difficult boss. I’m scared to go back as I’m still very tearful and have difficulty concentrating. My MD has signed off on mental health leave for reduced schedule.

I’m starting back with a few half days and I’m gunna see where it goes from there. Has anyone else experienced something similar? What worked for you? My “fuse” feels extremely short these days and my patient caseload was stressing me out significantly prior to this- for the normal outpatient ortho stress that you all know too well. I’m scared due how this will go because this entire experience just has me wanting to quit my job for QOL purposes. :(
