Why do the moderators on this website try to enforce such a backwards and unsavory environment?

When you look at the large and main thrust of the forums on this website you see a lot of cynical mental diarrhea regurgitated over and over again. Why exactly is this curated and an atmosphere of intimidation against logical discourse or response discouraged?

For example if you point out the moronic behavior of people on here they will just put a ban or something like that on you. In real life if people behaved in such problematic ways no one would try to pay any mind to them and eventually somebody would tell them to leave.

Why do moderators seem to encourage a sinking hole environment?
