Sikh guy trying to get better at respectfully approaching women in public (Vancouver advice?)
Hey everyone,
I’m a Sikh guy in Metro Vancouver and pretty introverted/reserved. I’m trying to work on my confidence and social skills, especially when it comes to respectfully approaching women I find interesting in public (cafes, bookstores, transit, events, etc.).
I’m not trying to be weird, pushy, or use cheesy pickup lines. I just want to learn how to naturally start conversations and know when it’s appropriate vs not appropriate.
Sometimes I’ll see someone I’d genuinely like to talk to, but I overthink it and say nothing. Other times I worry I’ll come off awkward or make them uncomfortable, which I definitely don’t want.
A few questions:
What’s a natural opener that doesn’t feel forced?
How do you tell if someone is open to conversation?
For women here: what makes an approach feel respectful vs uncomfortable?
Are there better places in Vancouver to practice socializing than random public transit?
Would appreciate honest advice, especially from people who’ve gotten better socially over time. Just trying to improve and become more confident while being respectful.
Thanks 🙏
