Do S-Rank Characters Really Matter?

Hi everyone, I’m still pretty new to gacha games and their ranking systems, especially the whole A-rank vs. S-rank thing.

From what I understand about the Console Module system in NTE, does character rank actually matter that much if you mainly play A-rank characters?

I’ve noticed that a lot of people in gacha games always prioritize getting S-rank characters, but personally, I prefer choosing characters based on whether I enjoy their design and gameplay.

For example, I really like Mint, so I want to fully invest in her because she’s fun to use and I love her design (and basically everything about her UwU).
Since NTE has the module system, I’m wondering if it’s possible for A-rank characters like Mint to become comparable to S-rank characters in the endgame by giving them strong builds and maxed-out S-rank Console Modules.

I’d really appreciate it if someone could explain how rank differences (especially character ranks) usually work in gacha games, and how NTE specifically handles them
