How do you move on when the breakup was your own decision but your heart still refuses to accept it?
Nobody cheated. He’s not a bad person. We separated because life felt different for both of us. He has a full-time job, family responsibilities, a routine, people around him. He stays busy naturally, so maybe it’s easier for him to move forward.
Meanwhile I’m preparing for government exams, unemployed, living alone in a hostel, and my entire routine is collapsing. My mock test scores are dropping because I genuinely cannot focus. Even when I study, my brain keeps replaying conversations, memories, future plans, everything.
And before someone says “just stay busy” — that’s the problem. Even when I’m busy, I still think about him. Distraction is temporary. The thoughts are constant.
What makes it harder is that I literally live around 400 meters away from his house, so it never fully feels over. Every nearby road, every area reminds me of him. I feel emotionally unstable and stuck while his life keeps moving normally.
I also don’t have money for things people usually suggest like gym, therapy, trips, dance classes, etc. So please don’t give surface-level advice.
I just want to know from people who genuinely went through this:
How did your brain finally let go?
How did you stop feeling emotionally attached to someone who was once your comfort person?
And how did you study/work normally again without breaking down every few hours?
