n Finland, confirmation is one of those milestones where childhood quietly steps aside and youth starts to take over. As a photographer in Lappeenranta, I’ve spent more than a decade capturing that exact moment — and I’ve learned that a confirmation portrait is rarely “just a picture”.

For many teens, it’s the first time they see themselves in a more grown‑up, confident light. Not as a kid, not as an adult, but as someone right in the middle of becoming who they are. And that moment deserves more than a quick phone snapshot on the church steps.

What really makes these sessions special isn’t the outfit or the location (though Lappeenranta’s Saimaa shores and the old Fortress are hard to beat). It’s the atmosphere. When the tension fades and the young person relaxes, their real personality shows — and that’s the magic you want to preserve.

A few things I’ve learned over the years:

* The best portraits happen on a different day than the confirmation ceremony. No rush, no stress, just good light.
* Teens don’t need to fit a “traditional” look. Their own style always photographs better.
* Bringing hobbies — a guitar, a basketball, anything — helps them relax and tells a story about who they are right now.
* Nervousness is normal. A good photographer knows how to guide gently and read the moment.

A confirmation portrait becomes one of those images people look back on decades later. Not because it’s perfect, but because it captures a turning point.

If you’re in Lappeenranta and looking for someone who takes this moment seriously (but keeps the session relaxed), feel free to check out my work.

Happy to answer questions about confirmation photography, posing, locations, or anything related.
