Should I firm a university because of its academics or social life?
I have two universities; Durham and St Andrew’s.
While St Andrew’s is ranked higher in my specific course, I don’t like the area, when I went there on offer holder day I didn’t feel any sort of connection.
Durham, while still ranking high ish in my course but not as high as St Andrew’s, I felt instantly connected, I love the ambience, I loved the people I met on offer holder day, and overall think I’ll have a better time there.
In the long term, St Andrew’s would (I think) be better academically for my specific course, but I think if I don’t like the area and overall environment, I’m not gonna make the most of the course and all the opportunities. If you get what I’m saying.
So my question is, which is more important in your opinion; going to a university that is seen as ‘better’ by employers in the specific field or going to a university that is still seen a good and having a great time socially (and probably mental health wise too).
(Now that I’m writing this I’ve realised Durham makes the most sense LOL, just wonna hear others inputs).
